Well we all know that "the road to hell is paved with good intentions", so you can pretty much guess what that means. Yup, never got the marbled paper.
In my defense the marbled paper that I fell in love with at Paper Source was $23 a sheet, and I just couldn't see spending that much on a project I had no clue if it would work or not.
I'll give you one guess what I did with the box?
PAINT!
These boxes from Plantation had me at hello. But for a $130 price tag, I knew I could whip up my own version with that closet full o' paint I have
And so I did.
After painting the whole box turquoise, a little of that magic Frog Tape and a ruler is all it took to mark out the lines for the white paint.

nice job:)
Sell some of these fabulous boxes on your etsy store please! I'm dying for some but lack your creativity.
I know the marbled paper is in right now, but I much prefer this gorgeous look! This is my favorite box yet!
amazing box queen!
SELLL THESE! that is all :)
I suppose I can wait until after your wedding to demand one, if I must :)
That box is beautiful! Where do you find the before boxes? I've been looking for some paintable wooden ones without much luck.
LOVE IT!
So cute. What kind of paint do you use?
Amanda- I get them all over. TJ Maxx, Michaels, the craft store. There are always things just itching for a makeover :)
The Social Secretary- I use all kinds of paints but usually its just basic craft paint or oops paints from Home Depot.
You are too funny. Love how this one turned out!!! You have a little box addiction!
I love it! What color did you use for the turqoise. It's so soft.
JandJhome- I wish I had a color name for you- but its just a mix of a bunch of colors that I had on hand. My favorites are the Martha Stewart colors, and often times I'll lighten or darken them with white and black paint.
You should open an etsy shop and sell these!! I'd be your first customer. Gorgeous!
I love those plantation boxes, and never even considered making them myself! Great job!
awesome!
fantastic, but we knew that right? You rock!
Great makeover. What a chic little box!!
Um, yeah...your box HAS a friend, in Brazil, her name is alison g.
Please tell me you'll start etsy-ing the hell out of these things, soon. Could fund your honeymoon ;)
Wow, how gorgeous! I am so inspired to make some of these beauties now! LOVE!
It turned out gorgeous! I just nominated you for a homie at apartment therapy!
Oh I don't know what marbled paper is, but I dont know a great paint job when I see one and right now...I see a great paint job. How did you ever get it so clean looking?

I am so loving these boxes. How did you get them so shiny?? Gorgeous!
Thank you, thank you....I have three random wood boxes that have lived in three countries with me now and have been in the to do craft box for about 6 years.....this was inspiration to get them out of storage.
Gorgeous!! I love it!
I've had a love affair with those plantation boxes for awhile now and never even thought to try a DIY version! Yours look amazing-mine probably wouldn't turn out as well though, I don't have a steady hand when it comes to paint projects. I agree, you should totally sell those in your etsy shop.
so pretty. love the blue.
LOVE this! it turned out beautiful. i want one.
this is amazing. I saw these boxes at a store in san francisco before christmas and wanted them so badly, but the price tag really stopped me. Thanks for the inspiration - perhaps I can make my own!! :)
You have not lost it! I LOVE your painted boxes. They are absolutely inspiring and I will be copying soon.
Beautiful. I have a box that I started to paint just like this... but mine isn't as glossy. Did you use gloss paint or some kind of poly?
