Apples, Apples Everywhere!

Well and some pears too.

I had a wonderful time apple picking yesterday with some friends, it turned out to be a perfect way to end the summer and welcome fall.

All the good apples were at the top- this ladder came in handy

Here are the goods...

I didn't pick these, but they were too cute to pass up at the farm store

For dinner I decided to make myself some apple crisp..fully intending to eat that for my dinner and nothing else. I sliced up some apples, made what I thought would be a nice crisp topping and set the oven to bake.

It didn't exactly turn out how I had planned, but then again that's what I get for not using a real recipe. It wasn't exactly a crisp topping, but with some vanilla ice cream (ok, frozen yogurt) it tasted amazing!

I didn't take more pictures because it was not the prettiest thing...but I'm going to try again at the end of the week and hopefully that one is a little more eye appealing as well as tasty!

Hi - here is an Apple Crisp recipe for your Macintosh apples. I know those are what you picked yesterday

6 McIntosh apples, peeled and diced into 1/2-inch pieces
1/2 lemon, juiced
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground or freshly grated nutmeg
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 cup flour or fine graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 stick butter
1 pint vanilla ice cream

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In a 9 by 12 baking dish, combine apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar. In a small bowl, mix flour or graham cracker crumbs, brown sugar and butter together using the tines of a fork and your fingers, working until even, small crumbles form. Sprinkle topping evenly over apples and bake 15 to 20 minutes until apples are just tender and topping is golden brown. Top dishes of apple crisp with small scoops of vanilla ice cream.
