I opened BH&G and saw this GENIUS idea staring back at me!
dyed lamp shades!
An easy DIY project to do at home. Take any plain white lamp shade, dunk it in a bath of Rit Dye
What an easy way to create a completely custom look!
Just look at all the different looks that can be created with just a simple colored lampshade.

Brill.
Great idea! Please share with us how the process goes!
Umm, genius! I love the look of colored shades but they're so hard to find and often expensive. Thanks for sharing this great tip; I can't wait to try it myself!
Great Post! Good luck with your project! Xo
I saw this in bh&g too! Plus Lucky did a whole Rit dye article this month too! http://www.luckymag.com/style/howto/2011/02/diy-dye#slide=1. I definitely want to try this out on my bedroom lampshade.
Linds,
I do think I will try one in yellow!

Adore that!
Janis (Navy Bean) I didnt see that Lucky article, but thats so cool! I wonder if the at home DIY job would be as good as they show in the pictures?
Love the idea...I think it will turn out better if you dye the fabric first, then make the shade. Otherwise, the coloring will condense in the pleats or seams. Or dye fabric and apply it to a paper shade with that light spray adhesive. Love your pics of colored shades!
I have never thought of this idea. Excited to see how it turns out for you!
great idea!! i just got my issue but haven't read it yet. hope it works. let us know so then i can try!
That is a totally brilliant idea, I'm a huge fan of colored lampshades...I'm hoping you will take the plunge and let us know how it went??? (c:
P.S.-LOVE the miles redd pics, he is a total genius.
love this idea; i hope you'll share any tips you learn if you give this a go!
will this craft replace the spray paint!? FYI, I need your help on that light fixture. What was that website you sent me that had all the great colors.
REALLY great idea. Rit dye sorta intimidates me, but I do have a white (and dingy from the dry cleaners) Theory cropped jacket draped over my computer chair right now that is just begging for a re-do with some Rit dye ... I think it's time for me to face the fear!
I so thought the same thing when I saw this! ha.
Brilliant! I used RIT to dye my bedroom curtains and they came out fantastic!!
OMG. I tried this. They came out runny looking... but pretty!
Let us know how it turns out!
Genius idea. Why didn't I think of that? Great images too.
Amazing idea - I love it!
genius.
