I'm in the middle of thinking about a wedding registry (I hate the idea having to do this, it's like I'm asking for presents, which I SO am not. I didn't want to bring up the registry subject here, but screw it- it's real and I'm talking about it) and I keep coming back to this photo over and over.
Bunny Williams has my DREAM butler's pantry. I would spend HOURS in here if I had a space like this. I mean lets get real, I've thought about moving the fiances clothes to a rolling rack in the hall just so I could have my own pantry too. But I guess that would defeat the purpose of having an organized home, right?
Back to the photo... look at all those candles! She could host an over the top dinner party in a flash with all those supplies.
I must start collecting like her, oh and Eddie Ross too. Have you seen his butler's pantry?

I think registries are awkward too! BUT, I'm telling you, ppl love getting you something you want and you will be happier with things you've picked vs the crazy things that would turn up otherwise. :) Just have fun picking things out....its part of the fun of having a wedding and setting up your home!
Okay, so gift registries. I always thought they were an awesome idea. I mean, help the guests out with ideas AND save yourself from getting junk/four crockpots? Perfect.
But...
I've read some etiquette opinions on it, and I feel like it's a little presumptuous. Of course everyone knows that people bring presents to weddings, but a registry assumes it. Also, telling people what to buy looks a little spoiled/rude. I know a lot of guests prefer it, but I guess the argument is that gifts should be thoughtful and have meaning.
I don't know. I'm definitely torn on this, because both sides sound very reasonable.

Yes, I have a tough time asking for things, but now is the time my dear. Ask away. Print up copies of your inspiration photos and enclose them in your invites, tee-hee. I dare you.

Although we all love attention, some of us don't want the be the "center" of attention when it is the result of our asking. It is expected of a bride to be so don't sweat it. Tell the folks what you want!
The butler pantry is a great thing, and these are gorgeous and well stocked with rich goodies also.

Oh I fantasized about our pantry looking like that, then reality set it...sad, sad reality.
Would kill for a proper butler's pantry -- I have a small food pantry, but it barely holds my dry goods, let alone serveware, etc. Ah well, someday!
And don't sweat the registry. While I know it can feel awkward, you WILL get tons of gifts, and much better if you like them and pick them yourself! It's just the way it's done these days...
Bunny's pantry is amazing. I had a chance to see Eddie's pantry - it's as fab as the pic. Your idea of putting your future husband's clothes on a rolling rack has me thinking...
In the city, we had a large closet which became my pantry. We will begin the renovation so I will have a large cupboard to stash away my pretties and have them at the ready. I sort of want to weed out and get rid of some things that seem trite or dated.
Eddie and Bunny have such perfect pantries!

Seriously! Wow can you imagine? How do they even remember what they have? But then again my aunt has an amazing collection of fine china, dishes, servers etc, and at 68 she remembers EVERYTHING she owns! Amazing, I can't even imagine living like that, true luxury!

eddie is just amazing
I feel like not too long ago I was asking you for registry advice for ME! It is definitely exciting and nerve wracking. I think it helps guests so much. I Love shopping other people's gift registries because I know they will Love what I buy them. I just make sure I pair it with a beautiful, thoughtful card. I wouldn't feel bad/presumptuous. It's a given these days!

I die over Eddie's pantry! Don't get me wrong...I love Bunny's too...but something about all the blue, (oh to have the style and organizational skills to create this!)

My gosh those are fantastic! I love the color of Eddie's. I want to know what is kept in the little drawers...napkin rings? placecard holders? Anyhow, have fun with the registry...I know it seems awkward but it's one of the only times in life when it's customary to pick out your own gifts, so you better embrace it :)
oh and also, I've always loved the silver against that blue. ok, done with my eddie excitement for the moment.

these are i think what one would call simple pleasures. i delight in them too.
Paint by numbers. Form follows function. Get your essentials, and eventually, you will have all your things in one pretty place. Then, you will have children, and nothing will be put back like a Bunny Williams pantry. You will have a great big mess, like the rest of us.

That is a closet off Bunny's dining room. You should see her butler's pantry between the dining room and kitchen, with cabinets full of antique porcelain, crystal, silver, etc.!
