That's because today would have been Josef Frank's 125th birthday!
Even if you don't know the name you would most certainly recognize some of his designs because they have graced some pretty stylish magazines, ahem Domino.
And here are two other favorite rooms of mine that use Frank designs
Frank was born in Austria but moved to Sweden where he designed his super colorful fabric and also where it is still produced today.
I would LOVE to use any of his patterns in a future design project, they are classic, colorful and fun- the perfect combination!
Happy 125th Birthday Josef!
(to see more of his fabric check out the great website Just Scandinavian)

Wow! That's neat to know, I saw it this morning but didn't know anything about him! I have a duvet from Pottery Barn that looks suspiciously like these patterns! I remember the description of the duvet saying something like it was an old Swedish design. How neat!
I was so excited when I saw Google this morning and knew it must be a tribute to Josef Frank I just didn't know it was his birthday. Google is with it!!
i LOVE it. totally noticed this morning. what a pleasant surprise. p.s. what kind of label maker do you have again? i'm trying to get one soon.
Wonderful! I think I must have some Austrian roots-
I love Scandinavian simplicity and the cuisine too.

The first thing I did was click on that Google header--such a pretty print!
I KNEW that Google doodle looked familiar - and I DIG it!
How fun....I was wondering what the occasion was this AM when I opened my browser.
Happy Birthday Josef!
For some awful reason my google does not have this pretty pattern - bummer. His work is gorgeous!
My husband is Swedish and we travel there every year. There is a fantastic store in Stockholm dedicated to Josef's things. Their link is:

I'm pretty sure they even ship to the US.
Great post! I wondered what that was on google today.
LOVE it! The last photo on your post is so much fun. I have always been crazy for his patterns and rich color.
I never go to the Google homepage anymore since I use the search bar so I'm so glad you posted about this! Love his designs :)
I had never heard that name, but I'm already falling in love with the colors he used. That last room is divine. I love me a white sofa and pops of color.
Go Google! We love the images you used to celebrate Josef Franks work & inspiration!!
