Sun Bleached Perfection

I love bringing natural elements into a room and one of my favorite is driftwood. Driftwood is like a fingerprint, there are no two pieces that are alike.  Each is special in shape, color and texture depending on where it came from.

A large piece of driftwood I found while beachcombing is proped up against my heater in the family room. It adds something a little more interesting to look at besides the ugly rental-grade heater that I can't do anything about.

One end is all twisted & mangled and the color of the wood is perfectly sun bleached & worn.

Another piece sits on my entryway / family room table (when I don't have fresh flowers there).  It's just as mangled looking and has the same perfect sun bleached color.

What natural elements do you bring into your home?

Leaves and grass are the most common natural element brought into my house... though it's usually on someone's shoes, not on purpose! :-) Other than that, I do like fresh flowers in the spring and summer. I'm also on the hunt for a perfect small branch that will be long enough to use as a curtain rod in David's "hunting" room. Got to do what I can to detract from the deer carcass he considers decoration. :-)

LOVE drift wood! = whenever i see some floating while i'm out on the boat - i always stop and pick it up out of the water! -- i also bought some pieces like this from Pier 1 when it was on this MAJOR clearance along with a HUGE vase thing - made of the drift wood ..

i particularly love the piece on your entry table - so perfect!. i have a piece that, i don't think it's driftwood-might just be a stick lol, but it looks like driftwood and has a nice shape...it's on my bookshelf. i also have some pinec ones i put glitter on for christmas that are in a little bowl on my entry table...and giant ones on my bookshelf. i love natural elements!

I'm with you; adding a natural element brings such a warmth to a space. We have antique antlers that are a similar color to the drift wood and I find myself moving them all over the house.

Driftwood takes me right back to my childhood. The colour is so warm and each piece is so unique. What a great contrast against white.

I always try to bring fresh cut flowers from around my community into my home. We have the best hydrangeas. They are blooming right now so I've been sneeking out to get them a lot. I live in a condo so cutting the flowers is not allowed, but I sneek out when no one is watching and get some every now and then. I always take them from an unsuspecting spot though.

Love your driftwood. I'm taking a trip to Charleston soon and I'll have to try to find some. -c

I cut leaves and flowers all the time, I don't think my house is ever empty of living things! And yes, ANY beach item, driftwood, coral, stones and SEA GLASS can be found in our house, we love natural things tucked here and there, it reminds you of the bigger picture. Great blog! *Amy

I love the driftwood, especially the tabletop piece.

My favorite natural pieces in the house at the moment are a jar of rocks covered with moss that a friend gave me for my birthday, a short stick from an evergreen tree our youngest brought to me from an outing and most recently, a dragonfly specimen scooped up by my second eldest and least likely to touch a bug, especially a dead one, because she thought I'd be interested in seeing it.
