When I saw the post again and analyzed the photos, I realized something bothered me about the space...it was really dark feeling.
A quick trip to Target for a lampshade and then to Trader Joe's for new flowers, and my little space is so much better!
This tiny change has made a world of difference in the family room and more importantly I can look at the area without cringing and wanting to chuck everything.
So tell me, what little changes did you make to your home that made a big difference??

taking a picture is the best idea! i'm going through a stage where all i want to do is redecorate, so this might be the help i need (to not chuck everything, which is what i am tempted to do right now!)
I ALWAYS take pictures to see how things look. It's amazing how different it looks in a picture! Linds I love it! The shade makes a difference.
And I promise this place will be clean by 4. Ugh.
What a lovely space. I really like the paintings you have on your wall as well.
Changing that shade did wonders! I love the way it looks.
oh linds. that tray. are those little elephants??? i need it!
Beautiful change, I always prefer lighter lampshades myself....Love the works of art.

it looks great! well done! a small change can make such a difference! love the blue tiny tray!
Looks great... a definite spring update! You're right, the small changes can sometimes make the whole room look different. We had a fake-but-nice tree on one side of our living room. No one ever mentioned it. We moved it to the other side of the room and very slightly changed some of the angles of the furniture and suddenly everyone was like "What a cool tree. When did you get that?"
It's amazing the difference a lamp shade can make!! It looks fabulous!
an easy and quick fix and it makes a huge difference - great job! don't you just love the flower selection at trader joes? amazing.
I love to switch up my throw pillows. I think the new lampshade and pink blooms were a fabulous change!
Totally agree -- the white lampshade is the right look for your entry. And I so wish we had a Trader Joe's in TX....their flowers are gorgeous (and their chocolate is delish)!
Looks great! I think lamps can really make the space. I've found that changing pillows and lamps can make a big difference.
Amazing how one little thing can make a difference. Looks great!
You are so right on both counts, the new shade is perfection, and a photo is such a great way to see what works and what doesn't! Great post!
hi friend. I miss your blog. I need you to come steal some roses for me that are growing at the end of my street. ok. thanks
p.s. love the parental dinner party. I'm sure they LOVE you
Oooh I so know what you mean about wanting to chuck everything!!!! I've been dragging furniture all over today trying to change things up- problem is I HATE it!!! Very frustrating!!
Love the new shade too!

Nice! I think it looks good both ways, but I like that you change it up. I move things around all the time!
Does taking out the trash count and recycling all printed matter? Speaking of, I would love a printed lamp shade there too.....one by Thomas Paul.
Pretty foyer you have to come home to!

I love it. Right now I am changing a few things around. my husband asked if we should have an under construction sign permanently in the house, ha!
that change made a huge difference! I think the entier lamp stands out more. Love the flowers and love your place. looks great!
i agree with sketch...like it both ways. maybe in the fall you can black it up again.
Pretty - I like both shades, but I understand your want for a change (and more light!).
I just sewed some new pillow covers, and pulled out some orange throws, to change up my living room. I'm also thinking of recovering my lampshade from black to tan.
And you're sooooo sooooo right about taking a picture of something to really "analyze" it - totally works.
