So Many Choices

I am going wedding dress shopping tomorrow!!  I am so excited to see all the choices- I'm going to be like a kid in a candy store.

Only one requirement going in...straps.  The dress must have straps!

Do I want sophisticate and sleek?
Crazy and fun?

Classic and lacy?

How about a mix of all of those?

So many options with just one to pick...however will I decide?

I love the one on the very bottom left!

Dress shopping is so fun! I ended up with a dress not at ALL what I thought I wanted. I'm glad I listened when people told me "Just try on lots of styles even if you don't think it's what you want."

Can't wait to hear how the shopping goes!

Audreya- that is great advice. I will certainly listen to the bridal dress lady and try on what she thinks would look good on me- I mean she does this for a living right :)

These dresses are so different. I love them.

Wedding dress shopping is definitely an experience! That's the only way I can truly descibe it!!

I like the very first one, the first 2 lacy ones, and the top right in the "mix" category!

Just remember to really trust your gut - and your friends/family. While the consultant will have some great reccomendations, she's not the one who'll have to wear it.
Also - try to find one that's not too heavy and is comfortable to wear!!! You're going to be in it for several hours, so you don't want one that's hot or uncomfortable!

I really need to post recaps from our wedding now....

By the way, I thought I wanted a lacy dress, but I ended up with a silk gazon with some ruffles on the skirt. I had gone to 2 different shops first, found new "favorites" at each one, but it was in the third shop with my Mom that I found the dress I wore. And it was the first one I tried on! Driving home I was soooo nervous that maybe I'd picked the wrong dress... but at the end, I was so happy with it - I loved my dress!

So if you find one you like, make sure to bring a friend or close family member in with you to see it (if they're not going with you tomorrow)- it's nice to have people who know you there to see you in it. They can tell you if the dress looks like "you" or not.

So glad to see you are going with straps! It seems like all we've seen over the last few years has been strapless and then everything begins to look the same. Love the selection you posted - all gorgeous!

I like the first SIX pictures. I'm going to have a hard time when it's my turn to do this. :)

It's such a bummer that so many stores are militant about having someone snap pictures. I find that I have better judgment when I'm looking at a picture of myself than when I'm looking in the mirror. Maybe it's that I feel more objective. I think I'll have to make someone sneak a few camera phone pictures, I guess.

Have fun! We want full details!

LindsB said...

JMW- that is exactly why I am going with straps! I dont want to look like every other bride in the last 10 years :)

How fun!! Wedding dress shopping is the best. Be mindful of who you take shopping with you though... Make sure you don't bring anyone that you feel might pressure you to wear what they think is best and not what you would make YOU happy.

It's all about you! And I definitely agree about trying on different styles. Sometimes what we think we want, isn't the best fit.

Have a great time!!

Beatriz.

yippeee how fun for you! I honestly don't know how you will choose. I would be utterly overwhelmed.

I love the birnbaum and bullock under the "mix" section.

Mine is a chiffon dream - love it!!

looks like I'm not the only one, but I too ended up with a dress that was the opposite of what I thought I wanted - so I would definitely advise being open (thought given the selection here it looks like you are). and you're right, there are SO many options, it's easy to be overwhelmed. go with your gut and after you find one you love, STOP LOOKING, you'll only torture yourself :)

Oooh! I can't wait to see what you pick out! Where are you looking in Boston?

Also, if you're going to Vows in Newton (where you buy off the rack), my advice is to not wear lipgloss/lipstick when you try on the dresses since you'll be buying the one you're trying on (you don't want any errant stains on the perfect dress). I wouldn't suggest going there first though - you should have an idea of what you want, otherwise the place is completely overwhelming.

Good luck and have fun! It took me a long time to find the right one, so just be patient.

Here's some advice from a 50-year old gal. I totally agree with having straps, they make the line of the dress so much nicer and strapless dresses make most people look heavier than they are and rarely fit well (if I see one more of my son's dates tugging up the bodice of a strapless dress, I am going to scream!) Also, wear something timeless with beautiful fabric that shines in pictures (like the one on the right in the first group.) I look at some of the wedding photography from the 1920s and I am in awe of the beautiful satin sheaths worn during that period. I cringe when I look at my very 1980s headdress/hat/veil (don't ask) which I wore, although the dress was nice. I saved it for my daughters, but I think they will only consider wearing it for masquerade parties, he he. Make sure you can move easily in the dress. The new mermaid dresses look great in pictures, but I have seen brides barely able to walk up and down stairs in them. Really think through the idea of a train. Is having to deal with them all night and while you dance worth it?
Your age is also a factor. I was an older bride (30) and puffy Barbie dresses were out of the question. Have fun shopping and while I have sent you some pointers, listen to your heart.

I say go for classic and lacy. My dress was all chantilly lace and (strapless) gorgeous! It felt so feminine and beautiful.

I am a random stalker prob never commented but I had to on this post bc the last dress(Melissa Sweet) was my wedding dress. I got married 3 years ago and I would still pick it every single time. I saw it online and I knew it was mine bc it defines my personality. Still to this day people(old and young) tell me that they have never seen a more beautiful dress! It was perfect and different!Have fun!

I feel like when I go wedding dress shopping, I am going to love everything and not be able to choose! I hope what they say is true- when you find the right dress, you just know! :)

I think my favorite is the mix of all the different styles...I can't wait to see what you pick, have so much fun!!!

Jaime- I am hoping I know its "the one" when i see it too!

So funny ... I said the same thing! "No Strapless!" I also said "No Lace!"
What did I end up with? A strapless lace dress! I just loved it

and a follow up on DesignEsquire's comment .... if you end up buying a dress from Vows then you will most likely go to the seamstress across the street from them. she only alters wedding dresses and is ... well ... STRICT. But she is AMAZING. I didn't get my dress at Vows but that's where I got my dress altered (and a ton of friends/family did as well). She is a miracle worker and totally worth it!

I just came across your blog and poked around a little, cute!

Have fun wedding dress shopping-it is an amazing experience to choose the dress you will wear on one of the most important days of your life-my only advice is to choose the dress that gives you butterflies, and the one you think will give HIM butterflies too :)

This is so exciting! You have to show us your options. I love that you are doing straps! My dress had a full ball gown bottom that we made detachable with a straight sophisticated dress beneath for the recepition. Never once regretted it! You can totally have the best of both worlds:)

good luck and have fun!
