Its no secret that Nate Berkus is my boyfriend (I can say that now because I have a fiance, so I have a boyfriend and a fiance) I love his work and I love him because it is yummy to look at too.
Speaking of yummy I noticed some new photos in his portfolio this morning (I could be living under a rock though but they looked new to me)
Anyway, his book Home Rules might be one of my favorites. You know one of those books that you just keep going back to for ideas all the time.

The family I nanny for has those bar stool type chairs in the first photo, they are to die for!
I don't yet have my own house (I'm in college) but the best thing about the apartment that I rent, and my room at home, is that the furniture has been collected over the years from random, and usually cheap (or free!) sources, and yet it all seems to work together.

Yes home rules!
My home rules according to certain aesthetics;
1. My Mother taught me that you do not have to have alot, nor be wealthy to live beautifully.
2. Living clean is important, fresh sheets and towels.
3. Good lighting, Southern exposure preferred!
4. Putting things in their place.
5. Loving what you have or living without until you can, we have metal folding chairs for the longest time til we found the right dining chairs. I love looking at photos and knowing that we saved, we waited.
6. A home should be a place to slow down- relax.
Ummm...my home doesn't rule, that's why I need the book!
Well at the moment I'm just a renter, but my rental home rules because it is filled with huge windows and glass doors that let tons of light in and offer amazing views of 3 different volcanos!

Well, right now, my boys rule! Once I get a handle on them, then my house will rule because it will be clean without blocks and transformers everywhere;)
I am DIY restoring all the original windows in my 76 year old house. They look so much better when they are done and I am saving tons of money!
I am not able to be a SAHM following my heart transplant in October. I would love to make my space fabulous since I will have to look at it all day! LOL. I need to pick Nate's brain/read his book to for inspiration.

I'm a follower. My home rules because I just moved in with my boyfriend a few months ago. He has great taste and already had cool furniture and sophisticated wall colors, but it was otherwise undecorated. He lets me play around, and he loves it!

The DIY project that made my home rule was actually a project that you posted about - updating bulletin boards! I had so many scraps and photos lying around, but I felt like my bulletin boards looked a little juvenile and mismatched. I have re-covered my bullion boards with fabric and upholstery tacks. So much more sophisticated.
Great giveaway!!! My home rules because it's my first one! It's really just a shoebox apartment but mine, nonetheless.
My husband and I gutted our kitchen and completely renovated it to our taste and we are so proud of the outcome (love it!).
But what has made me LOVE my home is knowing that in a few weeks this will be where we bring our first baby home to ... that kind of love has been way stronger than any sort of structural/design transformation we could ever make in this place. Our little baby will make this house a home.
My home rules beacuse there is no place else I'd rather be than on the couch with hubby watching a movie. My favorite DIY was we opend the closet from the sapre room into the bathromm making it twice the size. Thanks for the giveaway!
What a great giveaway! I think my home rules because it is always a work in progress. I enjoy experimenting and being creative with it. I don't want it every to be fully "done" because that would take all the fun out of owning a home!

I am a follower! I love Nate! For a DIY project, I just made some pretty candlestick holders that would look pretty sitting on top of Nate's book on my coffee table! Check my blog for the "how to"...
oh pick me! :) a DIY project that has transformed my home? it's my plywood buffet table that is skirted. it's very simple- but it allowed me to hide all of my china, pottery, serving pieces underneath. great, great storage!

Hi, I just found you on Things That Inspire. I love that blog and noticed the pic of Nate! OH MAMA! he's so stinkin' cute! I can already see that I am going to love your blog. I love my home, because me and my honey built it with our own two hands and he built my kitchen and most of the furnishings we have. He's very talented and whatever I ask for, he builds for me. He has a full wood shop and it's his hobby and his hobby makes me happy! :)

I adore Nate and my home so needs this book and some rules.
I am so excited to be moving into a new modern condo soon with 20 foot ceilings, wood floors, stainless kitchen with granite. The best part is that I am going to have this huge roof patio that is almost having a whole extra room outside my bedroom... so perfect for enjoying Austin, TX or entertaining! My home doesn't rule yet.. but it's certainly on its way! DIY-wise I am a total art lover but don't have the budget for anything too exciting so instead I took a bunch of real cool artsy pictures i took on our honeymoon (a pile of sandals for sale in capri, cool images of landscapes and even some of the food we ate!), had them printed a bit larger and then ikea-framed them all for a really cool and original art wall over the couch! i LOVE it! it was really inexpensive, the look is beautiful and makes a big impact and it's totally personal and remind me of the best trip i ever took :)

My home rules... or is GOING to rule because i am preparing to move out of an apartment I have shared with my twin brother for the past 5 years and into a one bedroom on my own. I'm totally looking forward to having it all my way. I've started refinishing my furniture to suit my new bachelor pad, and have fallen back in love with my imitation campaign style dresser and nightstands in the process. Pick me!

My home rules because I've recently taken the plunge into rescuing Craigslist finds. I just bought a $20 *large* and shapely mirror, and with some white paint on the wood, it looks fantastic above my fireplace and really transforms the room!

Great giveaway. My home rules because it was in such bad shape when we moved in, I've been able to recreate it into exactly what I want it to be. I think it's beautiful and everyone who visits says it's very warm and comfortable. The bonus is just about everything is from a thrift store, flea market or estates sales - not a huge deal if it gets messed up.
Love your blog... just started reading it recently. My home is a mix of my style and my husband's style which is (after almost a year) turning into OUR style. I also love everything Nate designs and I'm sure his book is just as awesome!

My favorite project was done 18 years ago. A back porch attached to the garage was enclosed and turned into a tea room for my daughter who was 3 years of age. We had lots and lots of tea parties. Lisa is now in college and the tea room is now my reading room. I often am reading a book in my room when I think of one of those special tea parties we had together.
